An official is at the door checking Rod's safety equipment. Then the starter gives the signal that the car can be pushed off. That's me [Lon] at the wheel of the push truck. Bob is on the passenger side. He removed the electrical
connection between the car and truck just before push off.
The picture on the left shows the car has got up on cam and is accelerating away from the push truck. The black line is what the driver follows. By the time the push truck gets to the end of the course [at about 55 MPH] Rod has had time to climb out and get out of most of the hot fire suit. Everything worked fine. Bear in mind this is the first time the car has powered itself. There is no way that this car can be tested on a public highway as is sometimes done with drag and circle track cars. A day before leaving for Wendover we fired the engine with the car on jack stands and tried out the trans. It was nice to know that all the systems worked.
